Joshua 1:9 {Monthly Verse}

Over the last few months, we have been starting to work with Harper on some Scripture memory.  We have chosen the verses based on ones that she is learning about either at her preschool or at church, and I am amazed at what she can memorize.  So far, she has memorized two verses.

August:

"Nothing can separate us from God's love."  Romans 8:39

September:

"Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God has forgiven you."  Philippians 4:32

Harper has been learning about Moses, both at school and at church.  Our church (Fellowship Community Church) began a series in September that is a chronological study of the Bible called "The Story."  The wonderful thing about this churchwide initiative is that the Kids Life programs are following the same outline.  Can I tell you how heartwarming it is to hear your four-year-old tell you about Moses, Pharaoh, the Red Sea, Canaan, and the Promised Land-- how she is understanding these ancient stories and how they apply to her precious little life? She's learning about His protection, His guidance, and His unending pursuit of His people.

 This past week she learned about Moses and the spies sent to the Promised Land.  I think it has been a divine coincidence that her verse from church is Joshua 1:9.

"Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

We have chosen to do more with Halloween this year than we have in years past.  Yes, that means some ghosts and witches.  But, we're just embracing the ghouls and goblins, and reinforcing with the girls that they don't need to be afraid of those things.  Because He is with them.  Death has no sting.  We can laugh at those things with no fear.  I love that a verse about being brave coincides with the "scariest" time of the year for them.

We have done a few fall festivals this year (more to come on those!), and yesterday was one of those.  We went to Chick-fil-A for their Family Fall Festival, and of course, the CFA cow was there.  Willa Kate was terrified of the cow (shocker), and Harper held her hand and said, "It's ok, Wills.  Don't be afraid; God is with us wherever we go!"  While that didn't convince WK to get closer to the cow, it made my heart soar.  Sweet Harper was using what she has learned about the character of God to encourage her sister.  Is there anything better?

I got a little chalkboard to write Harper's (and really our family's) monthly memory verse on and hung it on our refrigerator for easy reference.  I've found that if I do little hand motions or add a bit of a rhythm to it, it helps the girls remember more easily.  So, we look a bit like Bible cheerleaders.  :)  Anything to help these little ladies hide God's word in their hearts.
