Costa Maya, Mexico {Family Caribbean Day 7}

Oh, Costa Maya, you are shaping up to be our least favorite day so far (other than Harper being a terrorist at the zoo). It's not you, really. It's us. Remember that bucket of ice with drinks in it yesterday in Belize? Well, we caught Willa Kate with an ice cube in her mouth, and yelled at her to spit it out. And she did. We hadn't thought to tell the girls never to eat the ice in another country. I am so thankful she didn't ingest any, but apparently sucking on it for 2.7 seconds was enough. At 5 a.m., Wills woke up puking. Dun dun dun.

Loving on Willa to make her feel better

Waiting on mama to bring back food

She probably threw up five times. There really wasn't much for her to throw up because the girls hadn't had anything to eat since the coconut shrimp at lunch yesterday because they had slept through dinner the night. Harper started saying that she was hungry, so eventually we went upstairs to get some food, but kept WK out on the pool deck to keep her away from other people and the food in the event that she was contagiously sick rather than it being from the ice cube. We got her a few "BRAT" diet items to eat outdoors to try to calm her belly a bit.  That baby really is the sweetest thing I've ever met.  She stayed so kind and cuddly, even while throwing up.  She'd say, "thank you, Mom, for cleaning me."  The food seemed to be just what Willa needed, because she didn't throw up again. She actually kept saying, "Mom, I'm really happy. My belly was just sad," whenever I would ask her again how she was feeling.

But, Costa Maya, maybe it was you, too.  Your weather was the worst of our cruise, windy and rainy all morning.  (At least we didn't really feel as though we were missing out on much being temporarily self-quarantined in our room.) Plus, Costa Maya looked like a little Disney World port. Y'know, look! Here's our commercialized Mayan people exhibit. Not much local charm.

This was really the only port that we shopped in. I got the girls two beautiful white linen, hand embroidered dresses, and Harper bought a coin purse with her own money. Almost every vendor tried to sell us these colorful, embroidered bracelets for the girls. Since we never see their names on any namesake souveniers, we tried to dismiss one by saying, "oh, you wouldn't have their names." But, then sure enough, he pulls out not just one, but two different styles of bracelets with the name Harper. Turns out it's not so uncommon. But, no surprise, they had to custom make one for little Willa Kate. Sorry, "ilwa tate"!  We also loved finding Samantha & Sydney's names right beside each other.

There was a pretty pool area right there in the port, but we decided if we were going to eat and drink by the pool, we may as well do that onboard the ship where we could eat and drink for free. And feel reasonably certain that we wouldn't wake up to a puking toddler again.

So, our evening followed it's now routine-feeling flow. Pool. Showers. Ridiculously long nap that we weren't sure was going to end. Dinner in the Aqua dining room with Devi. Tonight the girls had prawns & linguine and a striploin steak with a snickerdoodle pound cake for dessert.
