5 Days of Christmas {Our Merry Little Morning}

When I hear someone suggest that Christmas magic is just for kids, I have to conclude that they do not have children.  Because let me tell you, it is absolute, unfiltered, delightful, this-is-what-its-all-about magic to be a parent on Christmas morning.  Ma-gic. Can I just bottle this morning?  To shake it out and see it on those hard days when parenting is somewhere below no fun?  To keep me company on that first Christmas morning after my sweet little girls have left the nest and I find my living room completely, disturbingly clean and quiet?  To remind me of the delight my parents find in me, that He sees in me?  The magic of this morning will always, immediately bring a smile to my face.

Christmas Morning Snuggles
After our late night on Christmas Eve, our girls started off by gifting us some sleep.  Like uninterrupted until 9:30 a.m. sleep.  I know.  Every parent of preschoolers is saying that alone could happen and the day would be a total win.  Way to go, girlies!  Harper Mae woke us up with sweet reminders of it being Christmas, so we went to wake Willa Kate.  She was asleep as I cracked the door, but she woke at the sound of my shutter going off.  Classic mamarazzi.  I love her crazy Albert Einstein bedhead.  To prolong our laziness on Christmas morning, we started the Christmas tradition of stockings appearing in our bedroom, to be opened in between lots of snuggles.  These sweet babies were amazed to see them hanging from our footboard, despite the fact that they were packed with boring things like new toothbrushes and toothpaste, and organic fruit and vegetable crisps.

After brushing their teeth with their new toothbrushes, it was time to see if Santa had been by our home.  Harper had asked Santa for an Elsa barbie during her visit with Kasey, and she told Santa that Willa wanted one, too, except smaller and softer.  She was so pleased to see that Santa has a good memory!

Their little presents were modest.  They each only had about five to open, and as usual, Sam and I didn't exchange gifts.  But, it took us an hour and half to finish opening presents.  And I. loved. it.  After each gift was unwrapped, we actually opened it.  We unpacked it, played with it, read it, tried it on.  We will do this every year we can, because it let our little ladies soak up that gift with gratitude and joy.  It prevented the furious tearing into gifts only to throw it aside and see what's next.  Our babies sure loved their babies, new books, toy monkey, and remote control car.  But, even more I think they loved having mommy and daddy sprawled out on the floor with them, sorting their way through ridiculous twist ties and plastic wrap to celebrate with them.

By noon, Harper was already yawning again.  I secretly loved seeing the exhaustion in her face because I knew it meant she didn't sleep much the night before... the anticipation and excitement of Christmas was just too much.  Sweet girl, know it was for me, too.  And the looks on your faces did not disappoint.
