5 Days of Christmas {Celebration Station}

Just when you think I couldn't say another thing about Christmas... It's another Christmas get together post!  :)  Last one, promise. Big family, all working and all living in different states across the Southeast equals some Christmas craziness, and at times some unconventional celebrations.

Enter the Celebration Station. Dad, Donna, and Nik traveled to WV for Christmas and got back to work the Monday after, so we had to get creative about meeting up so that it wouldn't be Valentine's Day before we exchanged gifts. They're living in South Carolina now (about 4.5 hours from us), so it is tough for either of us to drive to the others home for a day trip, so Dad had the idea to meet in Greensboro to spend the afternoon together at Celebration Station. It's basically a nicer version of a Chuck E. Cheese, so what better place for a 4, almost 2, and 11 year old?

We ordered some lunch shortly after we got there. After eating together, we got to sit around and visit together before heading off to play some games. We all had to take a turn playing Deal or No Deal-- the most fun game at those places. We all lost big at the end, but it was so fun.

After all the tokens were spent and all the tickets cashed in for slap bracelets and Laffy Taffy, we went back to our table for our gift exchange. My birthday was the week before, Donna's birthday was in just a few days, but Dad's beloved bulldog Demi had a birthday the day before. Harper may be the ony other human on earth that loves Demi. One of the many reasons she and Dad are such kindred spirits. So, I'm sure that he was thrilled to hear her say while having fun at Celebration Station, "I just love coming here for Demi's birthday!!"  Not mother's birthday. Not Nana's birthday. Demi's birthday. Dad has officially brainwashed her.

The girls had a great time opening their gifts (and Sam and I got some really nice things as well!). But, one gift took the cake. Harper was so excited to open her new bow from Papaw. She can't wait to shoot at her sister target. And she asked why I kept calling her "a Katniss." Ha.

Nik could tell she was dying to shoot it, so he took her outside to the grassy area to play while the rest of us packed up our things. He is so good with her, good to her. He happily hid behind bushes and darted around to entertain her, and then dutifully stood still so she could actually hit him with an "arrow."  I love that though he is middle school, he's not too cool for his thirty-something sisters and annoying little nieces.

After all that fun, we got a Christmas, err New Year's miracle. Both girls actually slept for most of the ride home. Even dreadful-in-the-car Willa. She must've had a full belly and a played-out little heart.

(Better pictures to come... As soon as I find my camera cord!)

  1. Wonderful blog-post on 5 Days of Christmas! It is one of my favorite festivals. I attend lots of Christmas music and dance events at local Chicago event space every year but this year I am in LA to celebrate this day. Tonight we are going to party hard!!

  2. Hospital's visit was the last official engagement of 2015 for The Countess. Tomorrow is Christmas Ascot, so there's hope we will see The Wessex family. Then there's the church walk on Christmas Day. We also should see TRH's on New Year's Day, as they usually attend Sunday service, if they are still at Sandringham. So, still plenty to look forward before the end of this year!
