Happy 6th birthday, Harper Mae Fertitta!
This child has been celebrated and celebrated. Since several of the kids from her class have brought in cupcakes for their birthday, Harper told me the night before her birthday that she wanted to do something similar (and because she couldn't invite all twelve of the girls from her class to her party because of space/budget constraints). It has been Teacher Appreciation Week at her school, so to kill two birds with one stone, we decided on taking in iced and sprinkled Dunkin Donuts, since it happens to be a favorite of both Mrs. Campbell and Harper.
After a full day of school and a quick nap at home, Harper was beyond ready for her princess party. Since it's Harper's "crown" birthday this year (she turns 6 on the 6th), she decided she wanted a princess-y themed party for some of her girlfriends at school. I knew of the exclusively little girl salon Oh So Glitzy, but had never been there. All it took was mentioning the idea of getting manicures, pedicures, hairstyles, and makeup to my prissy tomboy, she was sold. She goes from frog catching to nail painting in zero seconds flat.
So, be prepared for more adorable girly-ness than one can stand. Apparently Sam has a high threshold for adorableness at this point because he was a champ and hung out with eight girls and two moms for the full two hours. And even pretended not to hate it. :)
Each girl-- Harper, Willa Kate, Ella, Mia, Mya, Delaney, Reagan, and Emerson-- got to choose their nail polishes for both their manicure and pedicure, and took turns in the chair getting their princess hairstyle. The part that blew Harper's mind and ended up being her favorite birthday "present" was that she got to wear makeup. Not just mama's lip gloss makeup, but some eye shadow of her choosing and some pretty bright lipstick.
After all the little girls got dolled up, they got to pick out dress up costumes from the Dress Up room. They so loved parading around and dancing in the open area at the store front.
The girls ate pizza (provided by Oh So Glitzy) and the fruit, veggies, chips, and cupcakes we brought along. Harper loved opening her gifts from her friends, and was pleased to see some Shopkins and jewelry in the mix (two of her favorite things right now). The two hours seem to fly by, which was good because there was a LOT of excitement going on in Oh So Glitzy. They made the party easy and effortless, since we literally showed up ten minutes before it started with a small armful of things for the party. Although it wasn't inexpensive especially after tip on the services, it was a lot of fun, and I would definitely recommend it to others, especially girls around Harper's age.
Since there was a lot of prissy, sassy, fancy fun for the evenings, we wanted to take the opportunity to thank Harper's friends for celebrating with her and love on them by sending them home with a cookie decorated by my mom's pastor's wife who lives in Dandridge, and this Veggie Tales book about what true beauty looks like (hint: it's what's on the inside!).
What has felt like the month-long celebration of Harper (really, it's been a week) will finally come to an end when she celebrates with Sam's family at Mother's Day lunch on Sunday. She kicked it off with her birthday weekend trip and exclusive party with Sydney, then she celebrated with donuts with her class, and now her princess party with her school friends. Spoiled girl.
